Obituary

Norma L. Trevino, age 65, passed away on January 4, 2026 surrounded by her family.

Norma met Juan Carlos (J.C.) Trevino, her husband of nearly 50 years, at the drive-in theater here in Sunnyside, WA. They were married on March 9, 1977, and soon after made their home in Grandview, Washington. In 1978, they welcomed their son, Richard J. Trevino, who was the love of Norma’s life. When her granddaughter Serenity was born on June 10th, 2008, she became Norma’s whole world and her greatest joy.

Norma devoted her life to caring for others, both at home and in the classroom. She began working for the Sunnyside School District in 1980 as a paraeducator at Washington Elementary School. In 1988, she began teaching citizenship classes in Grandview, WA at night, helping many take important steps toward their future. Determined to continue learning herself, Norma earned her bachelor’s degree in teaching in 2004, with certifications in Elementary Education, English as a Second Language, and Bilingual Education, and later completed her master’s degree. Graduating with honors.

Teaching was not just her career, it was her passion. She dedicated 45 years of her life to educating and uplifting others. She made a lasting impact on countless students and families through her compassion, patience, and commitment to learning. She formed lifetime relationships with co-workers that became more than friends.

Beyond education, Norma found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She was a faithful Seattle Mariners fan, proudly True to the Blue, watching every game and never losing hope. Edgar Martinez was her favorite player of all time and waited for the day they won their first World Series. She also enjoyed scrapbooking, playing card games, sharing her mother’s treasured recipes, annual tamale-making before Christmas, going to yard sales, and cherished spending time with her family, especially her beloved granddaughter.

Norma played an important role in helping raise her stepsons, John Trevino, whom she helped raise from the age of 16, and Jason Trevino, from the age of 13, with whom she shared an especially close bond.

Norma is survived by her husband, Juan Carlos Trevino; her son, Richard Trevino (Rebecca); her stepsons, John Trevino (Amy) and Jason Trevino; her granddaughter, Serenity Trevino; her sister, Nora Cruz (Jr.); her brothers, Margarito Salinas (Linda) and Ruben Salinas Jr.; Uncle Roy Flores (Betty); a close family member, Rebecca Warren; and many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ruben and Teresa Salinas; grandmother Consuelo Flores; and a special aunt Margarita Valenzuela.
