Norma Buell went to heaven on April 3rd 2018. She is now free of pain and dancing around the feet of Jesus. She was born in Cambridge, Nebraska in March 1935 and survived the great flood of ‘35. Times were hard and she would bring a potato to school and put it on a wood stove to cook for lunch. She would walk the 7 miles round trip from school and back. She lived in Western Nebraska until she moved to Toppenish, WA in 1948. As a youth, Mom enjoyed playing basketball, baseball, and tennis. She graduated from Toppenish High School in 1953.
Mom was a hard worker. As a child, she picked up potatoes with her sister Lois and her brother Robbie. One of her first real jobs, Mom sold garden seeds from Gurney’s which led into taking care of an elderly lady where she was able to travel back East with her. She was also employed in the fruit and retail industry. Her longest, and final job was working at Inland Fruit. She married Darrell Buell on July 23rd, 1955. She had many friends and enjoyed sewing, gardening, working outdoors, her chickens, and talking with people. When asked what her proudest family moments: she was thankful that she had good kids and they all have a relationship with Jesus. When asked what her proudest career accomplishments, her answer was being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Norma leaves behind her husband Darrell of 62 years and a brother Darrell Hiatt (Diana) from California. She has three sisters, Lois Brian (Nick) from Zillah, Joan Lewis from Toppenish and Donna Sween (Jim) from Richland. She is preceded in death by her dad Nathan Hiatt, mom Mary Hiatt, and brothers Alfred and Robbie Hiatt. She has four children: Wanda, Robert Buell (Kerry), Rodney Buell (Lorie) and Steve Buell (Sandy). She has nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
