Nita Vanzant

Nita Vanzant, a longtime resident of Selah, passed peacefully in her sleep on May 23, 2018 at 95 years old. Nita was born on May 4, 1923 to Ralph and Lela (Anderson) Methvin in Verona, Arkansas. She was the second oldest of six children. She married Burl Vanzant of Everton, Arkansas on October 29, 1938. Burl and Nita moved to Selah, Washington in 1945 to find employment. Nita owned and operated Selah Coffee Shop for several years. She then worked and retired from Selah School District as a bus driver. Nita and Burl enjoyed their retirement fishing and camping with their grandkids. She is survived by three daughters: Jeanne Brandt of Selah, Connie King of Arizona and Carol (Herb) Vanzant of Arizona. She is also survived by six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren. She also has two living siblings, Joyce Methvin Markle and Bob Methvin of Arkansas, and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death are her parents, husband, daughter Billie Kester Bailey, two brothers, two sisters, two grandsons, a granddaughter, and two great grandsons. There will be a graveside service at Terrace Heights Memorial Cemetery at 11:00 AM on July 21, 2018 that will be officiated by Nita’s great grandson, Shane Campbell of South Dakota. Valley Hills of Yakima will take care of the arrangements.
