Nancy Tamiko Asato Uchida Nancy Uchida, 87, died peacefully, on September 1, 2017. She died on the twelfth anniversary of her husband’s, Akira’s, death Born on February 5, 1930 to Kame and Kama Asato, Nancy grew up in Waipahu, Hawaii on a sugar cane plantation. During her life in Waipahu she witnessed the beginning of the United States entrance into World War II. After graduating from Waipahu High School she attended and graduated from the George Gannon School of Business. Although she loved her family, Nancy left Hawaii for the Yakima Valley. There she worked for the Gannon family and became a part of the Japanese community. It was in this community that she formed many friendships and met Akira Uchida, her husband of fifty years. Nancy and Aki were married on November 16, 1955, in Seattle. They settled in Wapato on Higgins Lane. During the harvest season Nancy assisted the Uchida,Bros. with packing produce. Nancy was also a homemaker and enjoyed knitting, crocheting, quilting and gardening. She canned any fruit and vegetable that was in season so that they could be enjoyed during the winter. She was a prolific picture taker and in later years became a world traveler. She traveled to most of the National Parks and many foreign countries. Nancy leaves behind her Sister Amy Mauryama, and brother and sister-in-law Yuki and Sue Asato, children Joanne (Jon) Fancher, Stan (Jeannie) Uchida and Ted (Denise) Uchida.
