Nancy Smith

January 9, 1936 — May 21, 2016

Nancy Smith was born to George & Freda Deiner in San Bernardino, California on January 9, 1936. Nancy and her sister Gloria took music lessons; both became accomplished musicians. When she became 18 she went to Business College; she mastered that and met her husband Bob Smith in 1954, and was married in Yuma, Arizona. Bob worked for the state and mom worked at the courthouse for two years. Later in 1956 they had the first of four children; she was a stay at home mom until we could be left without a babysitter. Then she worked in schools; on January 1, 1973 we made the big move to Yakima, WA where dad became a full time beekeeper. He bought the business from Charlie Becker and she was dad’s bookkeeper, us kids were the labor force. Nancy played the organ & piano at the S.D.A Church in Grandview, WA for many years. At age 50 she was hired by the state to work as a receptionist at the AG experiment center in Prosser, WA. She worked at her job for 20 years and retired at the age of 70. She was an avid quilter and made many quilts for project linus just to name a few, she also belonged to several quilting gelds. Her last move was last year to Rexford Manor, she enjoyed it there and loved Debbie’s cooking. She met and had many valued friends there. Our mom wasn’t perfect but she was a good one; she leaves behind daughter Joanne Conduff and grandsons Stan & Jason Conduff, Janice Webb and grandson William Webb, granddaughter Amber Hamblet and great grandchildren Brook & Andrew Hamblet, son Jim (Billy) Smith and grandson Jacob Smith, daughter Jeanne Sheeley (Bill) and granddaughter Andrea (Sam) Gilbo. Family wishes to thank the hospice staff, and Dr. Leight. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Online condolences may be left at valleyhillsfh.com.
