Nadine L. Milham, 94, peacefully passed away with a smile. She passed at her daughter Marilyn’s home in Kennewick, Washington, in the wee hours of August 9, 2019. Nadine was born in Longford, Kansas on July 13, 1925 to Rudolph and Mary Fischer. Nadine and her seven siblings were raised on a farm.
In 1946, she met her husband George (Ed) Milham and they were married in Lee Summit, Missouri on January, 20, 1947. They raised two daughters, Barbara and Marilyn. In 1951, with daughters in tow, Nadine and Ed relocated to Union Gap, Washington where they were the owners of a popular truck stop/café in Union Gap, Ed’s Stop ‘n Eat. In 1968, they closed the café and both Mom and Dad changed careers. Nadine went into retail and her favorite career was Manager of Luv’s Hallmark in the Valley Mall. Nadine loved to plant and nurture her flowers and after she retired picked up a Danielle Steele book a friend gave her and never stopped reading. Dad always said “she’s got her face in another darn book.” Mom loved her little fur children, Taushi and Sophie, Shih Tzu pups and loved on her grand pups Mitzi, Mani and Baylee, her daughter Marilyn’s Shih Tzu's.
Marilyn was given the special gift of Mom’s birthday (July 13) and they celebrated every year together. Dad passed away in August of 2002. Nadine continued residing in her home and daughter Barb assisted her with all her needs. In 2012 she moved to Living Care Retirement Community where she met many wonderful friends.
Mom was the most kind and loving mother, grandmother and friend. Mom’s main focus in life was always family and she wanted everyone to be loved and happy. Through her many health issues, over the past few years, she was a fighter and surprised us all of her strengths. This time her heart was just too tired. For the last eight months, Mom lived with Marilyn and husband Dan in Kennewick, WA and was so grateful for the excellent care she received and to be with her family. We would also like to thank Chaplaincy Hospice Care and their most caring staff, especially Joleen, who was by Mom and Marilyn’s side during these last few weeks.
Nadine is survived by her daughters; Barbara Dodd of Union Gap, WA, Marilyn (Dan) Baker of Kennewick, WA., three grandsons; Greg Dodd and family of East Wenatchee, WA, Brian Baker and family and Brad Baker and family of Kennewick, WA., seven great-grandkids (5 girls 2 boys) and three great-great grandsons, her brother Donald Fischer of Oro Valley, AZ., a sister Arlene Owen of Yakima and several special nieces and nephews.
Nadine is preceded in death by her husband Ed, her parents, one sister and four brothers.
