Minnie Roller

August 11, 1921 — May 20, 2019

Minnie was born on August 11th, 1921 in Dickinson, North Dakota to Jerry and Albina (Mehulky) Kostelecky. She passed away on May 20th, 2019 in Yakima, WA. Minnie attended Roosevelt grade school and her father passed away when she was in the 8th grade. After her father’s passing, Minnie stayed home to tend for her brothers and sisters while her mom worked. In 1938, Minnie met Adolph Roller and they were married on February 2, 1940. To this union three children were born; Eugene, Joan and Ron. Minnie became a farmer’s wife, very different than being a city girl. But with Adolph’s knowledge and her grit they got through some tough times and a lot of good times. Then in 1952 farming lost its luster and they moved to Yakima, WA. While Adolph worked to support the family, Minnie took in washing, ironing and did a lot of babysitting. They were foster parents for Catholic Family and Child Services in 1959 and 1960. The couple enjoyed the opportunity to take a week or two every year for traveling by car and visited every state west of the Mississippi, Canada, and Mexico. Minnie is survived by one daughter, Joan Roddy of Yakima, WA, three sisters; Mary Ann Hibl of Boulder, Co.; Dorothy Hoarnaert of Pleasant Hills, CA.; and Rose Marie Ulmer of Yakima, WA.; and one brother Jerry Kostelecky of Yakima, WA.; one daughter-in-law Carol Roller of Yakima, WA.; six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 17 great-great grandchildren. She is preceded by her parents, three brothers ; Joe, John and Wayne Kostelecky, one sister, Josephine Fletcher; her husband Adolph Roller in 2006, son Eugene in 2002, Eugene’s wife Karen in 1999, Joan’s husband Ken in 2012, great-grandson Ken West in 2018, and son Ron in 2018.
