Obituary - Minnie Marie (Holmes) McLaren
Minnie "Babe" McLaren was a beloved grandmother, mother, and wife during her incredible
101 years of life. She passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday, December 8, 2022
Minnie was born on November 18,1921 to Perry Holmes and Lydia Lena Schulz in Longdale
Oklahoma. She had one brother and one sister, who both preceded her in death.
. In 1939,
Minnie married Oris "Pat" McLaren in Oklahoma and subsequently moved to Southern
California where they raised four children. They made their final move to the lower Yakima
Valley in 1972. Oris preceded her in death in 2002.
Minnie worked hard as a farmer's wife, keeping house, raising children, cooking for a crowd (an
ability she passed down to the women after her), and growing an amazing flower and vegetable
garden. She trained as a beautician and later was self-employed selling Home Interior and Gifts. She loved to travel to conventions with her Home Interior friends.
Minnie was a talented quilter, another skill she passed down to many in her family. She was a
member of the Apple Valley Piecemakers quilt club. Minnie also had the ability to make
stunning wedding cakes, which will always be fondly remembered by the brides she made
them for. Dancing to live music at the Harmon Center became one of Minnie's favorite
pastimes later in life. She made many friends and even more fond memories with her dancing
feet.
Minnie is survived by her four children: Ellwanda Baggett of Harrah, WA; Daniel McLaren of
Oakview, CA; Linda Simmons of Harrah, WA; and Roy McLaren of Brownstown, WA. She
leaves behind 11 grandchildren, and many great and great-great grandchildren. She also
leaves behind many other family members and dear friends who will sadly miss her.
