November 13, 1946 — October 10, 2019

Michael J Schreiner, 72, of Yakima, Washington passed away surrounded by family on October 10, 2019. He was born in Yakima on November 13, 1946 to Betty Irwin Schreiner and Mark Schreiner. Mike graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1965. After graduation he moved to Seattle and became an electrical technician at Boeing working on the 747 line. He left Boeing to pursue a career in law enforcement as a police officer in Issaquah then returned home and concluded his career with the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office. Mike rose to the rank of lieutenant and was appointed Chief Jail Administrator for Yakima County until his retirement in 1994. Mike was a third generation farmer and continued operating the family cherry and apple farm until this spring. One of Mike’s great passions was music. He was a member of the band Cops Limited playing piano for over 20 years. Often times his children would fall asleep listening to the band rehearsing in the basement. Closest to Mike’s heart were the many years he and family spent aboard his beloved classic Chris Craft plying in the waters of the San Juan and Broughton Islands. Mike was also an avid skier, motorcycle rider and vintage car enthusiast. He had a great love of flying and was a private pilot. He loved volunteering at the McAllister Museum of Aviation and the Central Washington Agricultural Museum in Union Gap. Mike is survived by his loving wife Ella Schreiner and children Mike, Stephanie, Aaron, Ryan, and Laura Schreiner. Mike had seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. A Rosary will be held at St. Paul’s Chapel at 7pm on Thursday October 17th. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Paul’s Cathedral on Friday October 18th at 10am.
