Michael B. Mitchell, Jr., 64, of Goose Prairie, Washington, passed away on January 26, 2014 at Parkside Nursing Care Center in Union Gap.
Michael, a thoroughly rugged and unique individual, lived in Goose Prairie for almost 40 years. He was very generous with his time and enjoyed helping others; checking cabins for storm damage and notifying owners; helping neighbors with their projects; and working at the Boy Scouts of America’s Camp Fife.
Michael attended Whitman College in Walla Walla and the University of Washington in Seattle. Only a few close friends knew he spoke Serbian and French. Michael was an avid fisherman and collector of wild mushrooms. He knew all the secret locations to find his quarry. Michael enjoyed being around animals and birds, many who found food treats and safety on his property. He was especially devoted to his cats, Fluff and Lambee.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, and an aunt. He is survived by his uncle, Joseph Mitchell of Olympia, Washington.
Michael’s kindness and spirit will be missed by those who knew him best. He was a Boy Scout at Heart. Donations can be made in Michael’s honor to the Boy Scouts of America, 12 N. 10th Ave., Yakima, WA 98902. Share your memories of Michael online at www.valleyhillsfh.com.
