MICHAEL JOSEPH HUNTER

Michael Joseph Hunter was born April 12, 1951, in Yakima, Washington, to Harry E. and Margaret (Weston) Hunter. He passed away on April 20, 2026, at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, Washington.

Mike graduated from White Swan High School in 1969 and went on to attend Perry Technical Institute, where he earned a degree in appliance and refrigeration repair. He spent many years operating a local appliance service center, building a reputation for hard work and reliability. In addition to his career, Mike proudly served his community as a volunteer firefighter. In the 1990s, he transitioned into property management in the Yakima area, where he continued to apply his skills and dedication.

Mike found great joy in the outdoors, especially camping trips to the beach and mountains. He was an enthusiastic NASCAR fan, a devoted Gonzaga supporter, and had a special fondness for watching classic Western films.

He will be remembered for his steady presence, his strong work ethic, and the love he had for his family. He leaves behind many cherished memories that will continue to bring comfort to those who knew him.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Jim and John Hunter. He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara; his children, Kristi Hunter-Russell, Carla Rush, Kurt Luttrell, Kye Luttrell, and Kent Luttrell; ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; his siblings, Patrick (Marilyn) Hunter, and Ann (Frank) Garza. He is also deeply missed by his faithful little dog, Susie, who still waits for him to come home and share a treat.

Viewing will be Saturday, May 16, 2026 from 10:00 am -12:00pm at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Wapato, WA, followed by a graveside service from 12:30 – 1 at Reservation Community Memorial Park. There will be a reception at the American Legion in Wapato immediately after the graveside service.
