Michael Hawkins

April 3, 1947 — October 7, 2019

Michael T. Hawkins was born April 3, 1947 and passed away October 7, 2019. He was 72 years old. Mike grew up in Mabton, Washington with his family. His Father, Robert Hawkins, worked for the Department of Game and was the Supervisor for the Sunnyside Game Range. Along with the job, came a house in Mabton. There were many acres and out-buildings for the four little kids to investigate and get into trouble. Mike graduated from Mabton High School in 1966. A Sunnyside judge strongly encouraged him to go into the military- he joined the Air Force. The unit that Mike was assigned to fueled airplanes during the Vietnam War. Their unit came under heavy fire numerous times. In May 1973, Mike was honorably discharged from the Air Force. Mike enjoyed being around people and working with them. He began his career at K-Mart and worked there for 40 years! As a Regional Supervisor with K-Mart, the job took him to California and New Mexico. For the last 15 years Mike and his wife Michelle resided in Farmington, New Mexico. Mike loved New Mexico and his job at K-Mart. He only left because of his diagnosis of a brain tumor. Mike’s real joy was in photography, painting, cooking good food, and his four legged furry children. He had numerous cats and dogs throughout his life and loved every single one of them! Yakima, Washington would become Mike’s last home as he came to live with his brother Robert and his sister-in-law Peggy in Frebruary 2019. He enjoyed being around his brother, sisters, nieces, nephews and numerous grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Mike is preceeded in death by his parents Robert and Maxine Hawkins, and his wife Michelle. He is survived by his brother Robert P. Hawkins of Yakima, and his two sisters, Andrea Hunt and Suzie Holm both of Spokane, Washington. We would like to thank the staff at Crescent Health Care Center for their kindness and thoughtfulness. Also, thank you to Memorial Hospice staff for guidance and insight!
