Melvin Moreno

Melvin David Moreno, Jr. (Sonny), age 80 passed away on October 5, 2018 at Astria Regional Hospital in Yakima. He was born in Grafton, North Dakota on February 23, 1938 to Melvin and Mabel Moreno. The family moved to Yakima in 1946. Sonny was a longtime member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church where he served as an usher. He loved baseball and especially the Bears, Pippins and the Mariners. He is survived by his sisters: Linda Gonzales, Donna Wies, Rita Young (Leonard), and Lori Zamudio (Jorge); brothers: Paul (Gidget), Michael (Diana), Robert (Sylvia), and Charles Moreno. He is preceded in death by his parents Melvin and Mabel; brothers: Steve, Richard and Daniel; sisters Patricia and Andrea Moreno; 2 nephews and 1 niece. Rosary will be 5:30 pm, Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at Valley Hills Funeral Home (2600 Business Lane, Yakima). Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am, Thursday, October 11 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery.
