Melia Delp

December 28, 1956 — March 11, 2020

Melia Delp passed away Wednesday March 11, 2020 after a strong, brave, and courageous fight with cancer. Melia Mae (Meyers) Delp was born December 28, 1956, to Jack and Virgina (Quick) Meyers in Cheyenne, Wyoming. She was the 2nd of 4 children; Debbie, Melia, John, and Jack “Hoss”. Her father was a furniture auctioneer which required the family to work and travel. This is where her hard work ethic began and strengthened in time working for the family business, Millers Market. She grew up around the valley before settling in Toppenish, WA, where she graduated high school in 1975. Shortly after graduating high school, Melia married the love of her life and soul mate, Steve Delp, from Zillah on July 29, 1978 . They soon began expanding their family with the birth of their daughters, Alicia and Stephanie, who joined their siblings, Jeff and Jennifer, from Steve’s previous marriage. Steve’s construction work required frequent moves around the U.S. for 11 years where Melia would help clean the newly constructed homes, manage the business and be a mother to Alicia & Stephanie. In 1990 they returned to Washington and joined the Zillah Community after Steve had an injury that prevented further work in construction. After the move home, Melia began nursing school at YVC. In 1995 while finishing nursing school, she lost her best friend and husband. She fought through the hardships and earned her RN license that same year. For the past 20 years of her nursing career, she enjoyed working for the Yakama Nation and Indian Health Services in Toppenish where she gained many friends that became family. Although she loved nursing, her true passions were family and shopping. She enjoyed spending her time off supporting her grandkids in their sports and activities fitting in a little shopping in between. She grew to love the games of basketball and football through them. Her grandkids were her most precious gifts. Some she saw more often than others, but loved them all the same. Melia was the rock of the family; loving, caring, strong, independent, brave and compassionate. These traits have been shown throughout her life to those around her by leaving a mark on those blessed to have known her. She is preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents, mother and father, husband Steve; sister, Debbie; brother; John; mother-in-law; Zelda Delp; sisters in law, Paula & Dolly; nephew, John Hoss. She is survived by her two daughters; Alicia (Claudio) Garza of Moses Lake, Stephanie Delp of Zillah; step children; Jeff Delp and Jennifer Brooks of the Seattle area, 13 grandchildren; Jvonte, Jeffrey, Don, Sabrina, Steven, J’Raan, Karissa, Victoria, Kristopher, Jackson, Kaiden, Liam, and Evan, 3 great grandchildren, brother; “Hoss”, in-laws Mike, Dave, Debra, & Laura, plus many nieces, nephews and cousins. Services for Melia will be postponed until further notice. A special thank you to her oncology doctors and team from Kadlec, family, and friends, for all the countless support, love, and gifts during this journey.
