Martin Schmidt

Martin S. Schmidt, 84, of Yakima passed away suddenly, April 16th 2014 at home surrounded by his wife and three children. Martin suffered from a short term illness. Martin was born August 26th 1929 in Roscoe, South Dakota to Stanis and Katherine (Heintz-man) Schmidt. He worked on a family farm until joining the Army where he met and married Vera Parrott of Whitney, Oxford, England, December 29th 1951. Martin is survived by his wife Vera, of 63 years, three children, Ron Schmidt of Pasco, Kenneth Schmidt of Yakima, and Joy White of Vancouver, eight grandkids, and 22 great-grandchildren. Martin was one of eight siblings. He was preceded in death by his parents Stanis and Katherine Schmidt, brothers Paul S. Schmidt and Joe Schmidt, and sister Delores Heilman. Martin worked as a manager at a cabinet shop, retiring in 1991. In his spare time he enjoyed woodworking and designing pieces of furniture for family. He was an avid Mariners fan, rarely missing a game. A private service with family and close friends was held April 17th. Martin will be greatly missed, he was so loved.
