Marie Alice Sevigny, daughter of T.J. and Clara Primeau, passed away on December 28, 2013. She was born in a grainery on her grandfather’s farm in Madoc, MT on April 14, 1916. She was 97.
At an early age she moved with her family to St. John, ND. She grew up there and graduated from St. John High School. After graduation she worked as a hired girl for the farmers for two dollars a week during the depression era.
She married Edmond Sevigny in St. John in 1938. They lived in Grafton, ND where their daughter, Joyce Anne was born then moved to Yakima, WA in 1948. She retired from St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in 1983 where she worked in the linen department for over 20 years. Her last days were spent at Jodi's Cozy House in Yakima.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband, who died in 1976; her only daughter, who died in 1998; her parents, T.J. & Clara (Laroche) Primeau; four brothers, Louie, Joseph, Arthur, and Emery; three sisters, Diana Collette, Rosana “Blue” La Haise, and Elaine Ream.
She is survived by her sister, Jeanette Baker of Longview, WA; four grandsons, Drol (Kate) Alarid, Eric (Rowyn) Alarid, Jason (Melissa) Alarid, and Shaun (Jennifer) Alarid; and five great grandchildren, Thalia, Domion, Aeisha, Halina, and Ada – all Alarids; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be offered today from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Yakima. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 4 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Moxee with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery.
