Marie Martin

Marie Sophie (Post) Martin Marie Martin passed away November 26, 2016 at Josephine Care Center in Stanwood, WA. Marie was born July 29, 1923 to Habbe Harms Post and Anna Maria (Mary) Buske Post in Gilmore City, IA. Marie was born tenth of twelve children. She grew up as an Iowa farm girl, graduated high school, and began to travel the USA. She worked at temporary jobs to earn travel money. In 1952, she came to Yakima to visit a friend and got a seasonal job at Del Monte. At Del Monte, she met a cannery mechanic/supervisor, Paul Martin. She went on a date with Paul and soon after her travels as a single woman ended. Marie was married to Paul for 61 years. Marie still enjoyed travel and she returned to Iowa several times with her children taking the Union Pacific train out of the Yakima station. In retirement, Marie and Paul loved traveling to CA to spend winters with their friends from Terrace Heights Lutheran. She also enjoyed camping, fishing, and Jeeping in Dad's '47 Willys. She loved to tend her flowers, watch movies and concerts, and was a wonderful cook. Her apple dumplings with rum sauce are legendary. Her greatest joy was spending time with her many grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Marie is survived by her children; Vern (Mary) Martin of Litchfield Park, AZ; Paula (Jerrold) Dalke of Mount Vernon, WA; Chuck (Daphne) Martin of Yakima; nine grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren; and two great-great children. Marie was preceded in death by husband Paul, her parents, Post brothers John, Albert, Ben, Herman, Bill, Gerd, Fred, Robert, Raymond, Harvey and sister Minnie Hanssen. Viewing will be Wednesday, November 30, 2016 from 3:00 -5:00 p.m. and Thursday, December 1, 2016 from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.at Valley Hills Funeral Home, 2600 Business Lane, Yakima. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, December 1, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Valley Hills Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Terrace Heights Memorial Park.
