Maria Yanez

May 20, 1956 — September 4, 2020

On Friday, September 4, 2020, Maria Isabell “Mary Limon” Yanez, age 64, was called home by our Savior. She was a beloved mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and friend to many. Mary was born May 20, 1956, in Brownsville, Texas to Ignacio and Siria Limon. In 1959, the family moved to the Yakima Valley from Brownsville, TX and lived in several towns before settling at the family ranch home in Granger, WA. Maria and her siblings worked hard for many years alongside mom and dad at the farm and years prior at local farms, cutting asparagus, picking grapes, apples, pears. Mary received her education at Outlook, Sunnyside and Granger schools. Post High School she went on to become a Certified Nursing Assistant. She began her career at Toppenish Nursing and Rehab Center of Toppenish, WA, where she worked for many years. Mary ended her career as a CNA at Toppenish Memorial Hospital, where she worked on the medical floor. She then moved from Toppenish, WA to Yakima, WA and decided she was not done with her purpose in life. Mary transitioned into being a foster parent, a calling she did so well and bravely. She took in teenage foster youth, and then younger children as needed. Until this day most of those foster children still kept in contact with her. Mary enjoyed watching old western movies, cooking, canning salsa, and spending time with her grandchildren. She looked forward to family gatherings and celebrations. Mary also enjoyed going to Legends Casino to enjoy a good buffet meal, playing slot machines and visiting with family and friends she encountered there. Mary was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Granger and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Yakima. Mary will be remembered by the loving, most generous and humble person she was. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. She is survived by daughter’s Veronica Mendez of Yakima, WA and Siria P. Mendez (Alfonso Ramos) of Kennewick, WA; her son, Jessie Limon Rice of Yakima; grandchildren, Adrian Barajas, Vince Elizondo, Sam Mendez, Savannah Munoz, Sophia Gutierrez, Robert Gutierrez, Ismael Gutierrez, Ian Gutierrez, Andee Ramos and Lorenzo Ramos; great grandchildren Nathan Elizondo, Zhavia Elizondo, Luis Perez-Gutierrez, Leighlah Peralta, Ermias Elizondo; two sisters, Graciela Aldaco and husband Cecilio of Granger, Rita Larios of Grandview; three brothers Jose Limon of Zillah, Pablo Limon of Granger, Patricio Limon and wife Lucy of New Bedford, MA; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends who are considered family, Judy and Olga. She is preceded in death by her parents Ignacio and Siria Limon; her brother’s Carlos, Albert and Ignacio Jr. Limon; her sister Guadalupe Casillas; grandson’s Emilio Elizondo; great granddaughter Nevaeh Elizondo, nephew Jose Limon and son in-law Jaime Barajas. Public viewing will take place at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Sunnyside, WA on Friday, September 18, 2020, from 2:00PM -5:30PM and Graveside services will be at the Lower Valley Memorial Gardens in Sunnyside, WA on Saturday, at 11:00 AM. For those wishing to attend on Saturday we will meet at the cemetery and await Mary’s arrival by Horse and Carriage, her very own Cinderella entrance to her final resting place. Due to the pandemic there will be no public Rosary or Prayer services.
