Margaret (Meg) Louise Forgey, 63, died October 21, 2016 at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family. Meg was born June 2, 1953 to William and Betty Hunter in Yakima, Washington. She grew up on the family orchard in Naches and attended St. John’s Catholic Church, Naches Valley schools and Yakima Valley Community College.
In the fifth grade, Meg was sent to the principal’s office for kissing a boy in the parking lot during lunch. Those kisses were the start of her relationship with Terry Forgey. The two were married July 25, 1969 in Yakima, Washington. Together they raised three daughters, Nicole Christine, Stacey Noel and Miranda Lee. Many times they opened their home to family members and friends who had nowhere to live. Throughout their marriage they faced many challenges. They also shared the joy of their friendship and worked to support each other. Meg often said, “No one understands Terry the way I do.” Terry’s daily care and concern extended her life and allowed her to be as comfortable as possible.
Meg was a hard worker whose hands moved quickly. As a young mother, she worked in several warehouses in the valley, including Briskey Brothers and Edmondson Fruit. Without fail she always finished the day as “high packer”. After attending college, she was employed in the transportation department for People for People. She was a skilled cook. For many years, with the help of her sister, Susan, she prepared the holiday meals for her entire family.
While her husband worked out of town, Meg worked to learn how to do basic home repairs and maintenance. She had an eye for color and interior design. When her daughter opened her first adult family home, Meg painted and decorated a room for each of the residents living there. In 1989, when her sister bought a house, she worked to turn a home with shocking pink walls and lime green carpet into a house that at least on the inside, looked like it belonged on her sister’s beloved Navajo Reservation.
Meg was intelligent and had a low tolerance for administrative run around. She was the family resource person for help with personal business issues. It did not matter what agency was involved; your doctor, the hospital, Medicare, your insurance agent or the IRS. She was somehow always able to explain in a straightforward manner what needed to happen to have things work out in your favor and was never afraid to go directly to the top.
Meg cared about the lives of her grandchildren. She loved baseball. It was common, during baseball season, for her to spend at least an hour a day on the phone discussing with Bob Breshears the game plan for Lucas’ next little league game. She wanted each of her grandchildren to value learning and encouraged them to understand politics. She would remind them often that someday they would be running the world.
Meg worked to make choices that she believed would improve the lives of the people she loved. She believed that each of us has within ourselves the ability to treat others with tolerance and kindness.
Meg is survived by her husband of 48 years, Terry Forgey, her daughters Nichole (Paul) Reese of Yakima, Stacey Forgey of Yakima and Miranda Forgey of Yakima. She is also survived by ten grandchildren, Christopher Reese, Tyler Reese, Hunter Reese, Lucas Forgey, Jacobb Forgey, Monica Forgey, Mariah Forgey, Evan DeVolve, Trever DeVolve and Hannah Forgey, as well as three great grandchildren, Aidan Forgey, Zaiden Goodspeed and Haidyn Reese. In addition, she is survived by her siblings, Christine Hunter of Yakima, Will Hunter of Naches and Gail Ragland of Yakima. She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Susan Hunter in 2008 and an infant sister, Maria in 1952.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday, October 30, 2016, from 4:00-6:00 P.M. at the Mt. Cleman’s View Sport Complex, located at Hwy. 12 and Allan Rd. in Naches, Washington.
