Mabel Greer, a resident of Toppenish since 1946, passed away on Thursday, May 29, 2014 at the age of 98 1/2 years.
Mabel was born in Lathrop, Missouri on November 14, 1915 to Giles and Louise Bowers. There were six boys and four girls in their family. Life on the farm was never boring.
Mabel graduated from Lathrop High School in 1934. In August of 1938, Mabel married Dyer Greer Jr. of Lathrop.
In November 1939 their first son, David, was born, and in July 1941 Fred was born.
In the late summer of 1946 the Greers, along with Mabel’s sister and brother-in-law, Ben and Marie Fox, moved to Toppenish.
The Greers and Foxes were active members of the Toppenish congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Mabel’s husband of 56 years, Dyer, passed away in September 1994.
Mabel is survived by her two sons, Dave and wife Linda of Toppenish, and Fred and wife Judy of Redmond, WA, 11 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and many dear friends.
There will be a memorial service for Mabel on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at 2 PM at the Wapato Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
