Mabel F. (Mary) Granberg, 98, of Yakima passed away Friday, September 30, 2016 at Cottage in the Meadow in Yakima. She was born on December 27, 1917 in Great Falls, Montana. Mary lived in Butte, Montana for a short time before the family moved to Clarkston, Washington, where after high school graduation, Mary attended the nursing program at St. Luke’s Hospital in Spokane, Washington where she obtained her Registered Nurse certification. Her first assignment as a nurse was working in Grand Coulee during construction of the Grand Coulee Dam. From there, she moved to Port Angeles where she met the love of her life, Willard (Bill) Granberg. They were married in Bill's hometown of Balaton, Minnesota on December 27, 1946. After 10 years and the births of their first three children, Douglas, Richard and Kathy, the family moved to Sunnyside, Washington where they welcomed their fourth child, Robert. Mary worked as a surgical nurse at Sunnyside General Hospital for a number of years and retired from nursing before working as a part-time librarian at the Sunnyside Library. Mary and Bill were members of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Sunnyside since 1957. Mary is survived by a sister, Ruth Stadshaug of Port Townsend; son, Richard of Terrace Heights; daughter, Kathy (Dan) McNulty of Terrace Heights; son, Robert (Stacy) of Escalon, California. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Shannon (Sean) Southards, Nikki (Tom) Howe, Danielle (Joey) Weedin and Stephen and Lauren Granberg. She is also survived by four great grandchildren, Grace, Hunter, Aubrey and Asher. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Douglas and Nell Gaylord, husband, Willard M. "Bill" Granberg, son, Douglas, two siblings and great grandson Cole Southards. Mary loved her many varieties of roses at their Sunnyside home, sewing, baking and of course her family. A viewing will be held at Valley Hills Funeral Home on Monday, October 3rd, from 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm (2600 Business Ln., Yakima). A private family interment will be held at the Terrace Heights Cemetery on October 4th at 10:00 am. A memorial service will be held at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Sunnyside 11:00am, Saturday, November 19, 2016. Mom, you will be missed so much, but never forgotten. We all love you!
