Lucy Winder

September 5, 1919 — May 2, 2023

LUCY (Nana) MARY WINDER, a recent resident of Bothell, WA passed away peacefully at the age 103, on May 2, 2023. She was born at home on September 5th, 1919 in Harrah, WA, to her parents Henry & Georgiana Carl. Lucy was raised in Harrah and graduated from Wapato High School in 1937(She was the last remaining child in the Henry Carl family of 7). She met her husband-to-be at a dance and on June 25th, 1938, she and Merle T. Winder were united in marriage in Wapato, WA. In her early years, she worked at a local warehouse packing fruit, and enjoyed dancing at the dance hall they owned. Lucy was a busy wife and mother of her three children, Wyoma 82, Dennis 80, and Dean 75. She was an active member of her church, involved in her kid's activities, a Cub Scout Den Mom, and was skilled sewing, crocheting, knitting, and needlepoint. She remained an avid sports fan, especially cheering on the Mariners and Seahawks at regular family watch parties. After her husband's death in 2001, Lucy sold her home in Wapato and moved to Yakima where she remained active in her community, played canasta and pinochle weekly with friends, and occasionally drove to Oregon and Seattle to visit family. In 2016 she gave up driving at the age of 97 and moved to Bothell, WA to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Wyoma and Robert, where she resided until her death. Lucy was the matriarch of her family; a strong, amazing woman, with an impeccable memory. Even at 103, she shared detailed stories of her childhood and being a young mother and wife. She saw a lot in her years, but the love and devotion for her family, was at its core. Lucy is survived by her daughter, Wyoma Caddy of Bothell, WA, her son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Joan Winder of Salem, OR, and her son, Dean Winder of Portland, OR.
