Lucille Ann was born on June 4, 1931, at home with her womb mate Lewis, to Fred and Mary Schumacher in Reynolds ND. She lived on the family farm and attended a country school arriving by horse and buggy. She excelled in school, loved reading, drama and textiles and started sewing at a young age on a treadle sewing machine. Knitting, crochet, cross stitch and embroidery, basically anything to make with her hands, she could do it. Lucille and her twin brother Lewis were the first in their family to graduate from high school in 1949 along with nine total classmates.
In a small farming community, a Barn Dance was quite the social event, this was where she met her future husband Loyd in 1948. They were married on June 20,1950. Their first home was an old schoolhouse that had been converted into a farmhouse. Three children were born in Mayville, ND: Mike, Mary and Margy. Raising a family was difficult on a farmer’s salary so they moved to Grandview, WA in 1958 where Loyd would come to own an autobody repair business and Lucille was a housewife and an excellent seamstress. She had started her sewing business in Mayville, ND and continued it in Grandview and Sunnyside sewing for others up until June of this year. While in Grandview five more children were added to the Rohman M&M’s, Michele, Marsha, Marty, Mark and Monica. She was a busy lady keeping everyone fed, clean and pressed for church each week. She was known for her pickles, dried fruits, fabulous horseradish and her Christmas cookies! While her children were young, she assisted with Boy Scouts, Camp Fire girls and many church activities and guilds.
In 1976 the family moved to Sunnyside WA where she resided until her passing. In Sunnyside she took up golfing and loved playing it until she was 85. Being a member of the Lower Valley Women's Golf, traveling to different courses and playing in tournaments with newfound friends was always something she looked forward to. After Loyd’s passing in 1991 she got bit by the travel bug and became a world traveler. Over the last 34 years she has traveled to all seven continents. Every trip brought new friends, trinkets, photos and scrapbooks full of memories. She loved reminiscing with anyone who had traveled to the same places she had.
One thing she was very proud of was her many years and gallons of blood donations to the American Red Cross.
Singing was always her passion; she always sang in church and then started acting and singing in the Over the Hill Gang Theatre group for over 14 years. In her later years she also sang with her singing group at nursing homes, assisted livings and other community events.
Her church family was especially important to her throughout her life and countless prayers were said for so many people and causes without their knowledge. She loved attending Mass on Saturday evenings followed by dinner at various local restaurants with her church friends.
Getting out socializing and visiting was another part of her life that she enjoyed, many of her sewing customers had become her favorite friends. Her attendance at her Nouvella, Bridge, Bunco and Pinochle groups were also outings that she enjoyed and looked forward to as they all helped fill her social calendar.
Having eight children she tolerated us kids, but she absolutely LOVED being a grandma to her many grandchildren and GG to her great grands. Mom was the glue that kept us all together and she will be dearly missed by us and so many others. Her amazing faith has sustained her throughout her life and now she gets to go on the best trip of all; to Heaven- don’t forget your passport and camera Mom!
She was preceded in death by her husband of forty-one years Loyd Rohman in 1991, her parents, her sister Geraldine Linneman, and her twin brother Lewis Schumacher. She is survived by her brother Don Schumacher, her eight children, “the M’s”, and her beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Thank you, Mom, for being such a great example of Faith, Love and Charity!
