Lorraine (Larrie) M. Armstrong 95, passed away Sunday September 8, 2019 at home with her three children by her side.
She is now in the arms of the Lord and her Husband James
Larrie was born in Baker, Oregon May 25, 1924 to Henry and Audrey MacDonald.
After moving to the Yakima area she grew up in the Nile Valley and attended school in the Naches school district.
When our father returned from the south pacific after serving in the Navy during WWII, he was driving down Yakima Ave. and spotted what he described as the most beautiful long-legged brunette he had ever seen walking down the sidewalk with his sister Henrietta. Larrie and Henrietta were best friends. After several failed attempts by our very persistent father to convince her to marry him, she finally agreed, they married on February 2, 1946 and this led to 57 years of marriage.
Larrie was a home maker most of her life. She was always involved in all of her children’s activities, including 4H with our horses, music, dance, school sports, etc. Mom was also the family’s memory vault and was called upon often on our family history. Including names, places, dates etc. She was Mom to many of our friends and a lot of them called her Mom even to this day! She treated them all just like they were family and even helped raise a few of them. She received the Lassie Gold Award in 1966 for making the canine world a better place in which to live. (First Human Recipient) She also played a small part in the movie The Hanging Tree which was filmed in the Nile Valley. The Hanging Tree was released in 1959.
Larrie is survived by her children Steve (Limetta) Armstrong (Yakima), Michael (Leslie) Armstrong (Yakima), Kellie (John) Orosco (Las Vegas), seven Grandchildren: Jamison Armstrong, Anthony Orosco, Matt Orosco, Nicole Orosco, Romero Orosco, William Enault, Toni Hill and 19 great grandchildren. Niece Carol (Wes) Engstrom, Liberty, Wa. And niece Marie MacDonald, Sparks, NV.
She is preceded in death by her Husband James Armstrong, her infant Son Scott Armstrong, her parents Henry and Audrey MacDonald, and her brother Randle MacDonald.
Larries’s Celebration of Life is to be held on Saturday September 21, 2019 at 1:00pm at Valley Hills Funeral Home Yakima Chapel (2600 Business Ln. Yakima WA 98901)
