Lloyd E Rivard, of Yakima, passed away at his home on Saturday, November 8, 2014. Lloyd was born on April 13, 1923 in Terrebonne, Minnesota to Dona and Marie (Gagner) Rivard, of French Canadian Decent of Quebec, Canada. Growing up on the family farm and Clear Water River, Lloyd was able to enjoy many actions that the farm afforded; showing 4-H livestock, hunting, fishing for Walleye and Pike, ski-jumping, horse back riding, and trapping. Lloyd attended Terrebonne Grade School and graduated from Lafayette High School, Red Lake Falls in 1941. He attended college at Grand Forks, North Dakota. In 1945 dad moved to the Yakima Valley and started his career in the Hop Industry, employed by John T. Haas Inc, of Washington DC, for 52 years; starting in the Toppenish Farm office, Yakima Brokerage office, and the Washington Corporate office, in Washington DC, as Vice President and Manager of the Traffic Department. Lloyd married Margaret Polley and together they raised 2 sons and 3 daughters, and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2010. Lloyd was a musician and started playing the trumpet at 16 years of age, in High School, playing for many dance bands in Minnesota and the Yakima Valley for 30 years. Lloyd also was an avid golfer and played until he was 87 years old, while playing at Westwood West, he had a career of 3 aces. He also belonged to the Eagles, VFW, and Elks. Lloyd is survived by his wife, Margaret Rivard, of Yakima, and sons, Pete Rivard, of Puyallup, and Terry Rivard of Yakima. He is also survived by three daughters, Fran Henle, of Yakima, Carla Lafferty, of Yakima, and Maudie Goettsch, of Selah. He is also survived by his brother, Don Rivard, and sisters, Denise Copple, of Seattle, and Della St Pierre, of Yakima, as well as 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. Visitation will be on Thursday from 3:00-7:00PM at Valley Hills Funeral Home (2600 Business Ln., Yakima), with the Recitation of the Rosary beginning at 6:00PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be at St Paul’s Cathedral on Friday at 11:00AM followed by entombment at Calvary Cemetery. Valley Hills Funeral Home is caring for the family.
