Lloyd Cleo Blondin, 80, of Yakima, died Friday June 22nd, just short of his 81st birthday.
He was born to the late Eugene (Red) and Grace Blondin, July 8, 1932, in Yakima, WA. Lloyd served in the United States Army from October 1952 to October 1954, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. Lloyd earned the Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars, the National Defense Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, and the Combat Infantry Badge. He married Patricia Blondin in 1960, and they lived in Seward, AK before relocating to Yakima in 1976.
Lloyd was a proud member of the Operating Engineers, Local 302. He had a passionate work ethic, an unusual gift for words, and a noteworthy laugh. He founded Seward Contractors in 1962. Lloyd was a survivor of the 1964 Alaska earthquake, and outran a tidal wave with his tractor.
Lloyd was a lifelong Catholic, member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Moose, and the Elks. He loved to fix anything with an engine, and was always moving.
Lloyd is survived by five children: Jennifer Descouteaux of Omak, Glenn Blondin of Belleville, IL., Walter Blondin of Kodiak, AK., William (Bill) Blondin of Zillah, WA., and Teresa Lemon of San Antonio, TX., He also is survived by 14 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made out to any wounded warrior fund.
A viewing will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at Valley Hills Funeral Home. Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Holy Family, followed by burial at Calvary Cemetery. Share your memories of Lloyd online at www.valleyhillfh.com.
