LINDA HOCHSTATTER DOLLIVER
Linda was called to her heavenly home by her loving Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Friday, April 21, 2017.
Linda was born on November 27, 1920 to Christian and Margaretha Hochstatter at their home in Yakima, WA. Being one of eight children, she grew up in a fun-loving family who worked together on their family apple ranch and put God first. Linda’s parents were charter members of Stone Church and much of her life centered around services, activities and friendships made at the church.
Linda’s life was filled with adventure, love, family, friends and good times. She enjoyed sharing special memories of playing basketball as a forward when she attended Wide Hollow Elementary School. Even in her last days she reminisced how she loved playing basketball.
On April 6, 1945, she married her love, Alfred Dolliver. Together they raised a family of three children: Delbert, Duane and Sharon. In 1955, they built their home on Lincoln Avenue and she lived there until February of 2016. Linda was involved in Full Gospel Business Women’s Fellowship and held positions with Stone Church Women’s Ministries. She loved the bus trips with the Seniors Group at Stone Church. She also enjoyed playing pranks and having fun with all her friends. A fond memory was taking a train trip across the United States to Washington D.C. with friends. Alfred and Linda ran a family business – Dolliver’s Lawn and Tree Service, which continued until their retirement. Linda was the bookkeeper, receptionist, and self-taught accountant, all while being a mother and homemaker. The love Linda had for her family was never more evident than during their yearly camping trips to Ohanapecosh, Lake Chelan, and Mount Rainier. Not many people knew she could water ski and she loved riding in their boat. All the children and grandchildren have special memories of their camping trips with too much food to consume in just one vacation. In their retirement years, Al and Linda took a cruise to the Caribbean and RV’d through the Western States.
One thing you could count on was that Linda would have a crossword puzzle book on her lap whenever she sat down. She loved crossword puzzles even at the age of 96. A favorite past time was playing the card game Rook with Al and her family. Many nights were spent around the family table eating popcorn and playing Rook. Another (sure thing) was the extravagant lighting of her house and yard during the Christmas season. Her house was a bright beacon in the neighborhood and it was on the “Tour of Homes” for many years.
It was her desire to share her faith with all those she loved and came in contact with. She devoted her life to her family and bringing them up in the knowledge of Christ. She was a prayer warrior who spent many hours bringing needs before the Lord.
Linda was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Alfred Dolliver, her parents, Christian and Margaretha Hochstatter, her brothers, Chris and Ted Hochstatter, sisters, Sarah Hochstatter, Margaret Culp, Mary Wilder and Frieda Miller. She is survived by her children, Del Dolliver (Nancy) of Redmond, WA, Duane (Marlys) Dolliver, Yakima WA, Sharon (Rick) Ashbrooks, Yakima, WA. Grandchildren: Kaarin (Steve) Shumate, Jane Dolliver, Nathan Dolliver, Chris (Allison) Dolliver, Shelby (Brennan) Munson. Greats – Audrey, Ellen, Olivia, Charlotte, Emma. One sister, Esther Richards, many nieces and nephews and close family friends.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Angel House Adult Family Home (Dana, Rebecca, Claudia) and Memorial Hospice for their excellent care and love.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, May 6, 2017 at 1:00 pm at Stone Church, 3303 Englewood, Yakima, WA In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Stone Church.
