Lilly Ricard, 94, of Zillah, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 with her loving family by her side. Lilly was born June 28, 1919 in Jonesville, Washington. Her parents Andrew and Selina (Johnson) Anderson immigrated from Sweden and Lilly was very proud of her Swedish heritage. She took three trips to Sweden to visit relatives.
Lilly grew up with her two sisters, Alice and Mary, in Wapato, WA, and graduated from Wapato High School in 1938. She met the man of her dreams, Wilfred Ricard, and they were married Nov. 1938. Lilly and Wilfred lived in Union Gap and Tacoma; then moved to Zillah in 1947. They raised their seven children on a small farm outside of ZIllah. Lilly was a very loving mom, grandmother, and great grandmother. She enjoyed traveling, watching birds, visiting and listening to music. She also enjoyed going to the casino and playing machines, when she had a chance.
Lilly is survived by her seven children, Rose Haynes of Zillah, Fred (Helen) Ricard of Tacoma, Ed (Jane) Ricard of Ellensburg, Ted (Linda) Ricard of La Center, Larry (Pat) Ricard of Bremerton, Lou (Linda) Ricard of Tucson, AZ, and Dolly Meyer of Zillah; 22 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Wilfred in 1979, her sisters Mary Anderson and Alice Burton, and grandchildren Joe Billups, Johnnie Schafer and Vadus Cash. The family would like to thank Dr. Julie Ricking and Yakima Valley Farm Workers Clinic staff, Toppenish Community Hospital, Memorial Pain Clinc and U. of W. hospital. Also a special thanks to her caregivers Polly Bird, Hope Sanchez and Brian Marshall.
Viewing will be June 24th, 4-7 p.m. and Wednesday, June 25th, 10 a.m. - noon at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Zillah. Graveside services will be Wednesday, June 25th, 1:00 p.m. at the Zillah Cemetery.
