Libertad “Lily” Velasco Dasalla Torres; February 6th, 1934-December 22nd, 2025
Libertad “Lily” Velasco Dasalla Torres, 91, passed away peacefully at home on December 22nd, 2025. She was surrounded by family whom she loved very dearly and beyond measure. Lily was born on February 6th, 1934 in Basilian, Mindanao, Philippines. She is preceded in death by her father Benigno Dasalla, mother Damiana Velasco Dasalla Adres, brothers (Teodorico “Nonoy” Dasalla and Rodolfo Velasco Dasalla), and sister (Dorotea “Doring” Velasco Dasalla Mina).
She is survived by her daughter Bernadette Dasalla Mina Wilson (Paul Wilson); two grandchildren: Bridgette Wilson (Raymond Gaytan) and Derek Wilson (Phillip Bruan); four great-grandchildren: Jocelyne Gaytan, Brooklyne Gaytan, Gabriel Gaytan, and Andrew Gaytan; and her brother, Sonny Adres.
Lily lived a long and fruitful life of hardwork, perseverance, family, and community. In her early years she moved to Manila where she worked in a tobacco plant. After some years of living in Manila she gave birth to her only daughter, Bernadette, in August of 1959 and raised her as a single parent. She had dreamt of immigrating to the United States in hopes of a better life for her and her daughter. This dream became a reality when she married Alfredo Torres in 1970.
Soon after Lily and her daughter immigrated to Juneau, Alaska in July of 1971. She was a homemaker and later worked as a fisherman alongside her husband. After some time she no longer wanted to be out on the open waters and began working as a housemaid for their local hotel. In 1979, she and her husband decided to move to Wapato, Washington. A place where many of her relatives became the foundation of the Filipino community. Here she dedicated her love to her family while being the best grandma to not just her grandchildren but to all.
As many of you guys know, our grandma's heart was very big and was known as “Grandma Lily” to many. Lily loved being with her family and her friends/“barcada” where she had passion for shopping, eating and listening to her Ilocano songs. There was never a day that Lily did not enjoy and want to share her happiness to just see you smile and enjoy the simple things in life. Lily’s favorite past-time of gardening her Filipino vegetables during the summer was the fondest memories we have of our beloved lola. From planting the first seed, to harvesting her own vegetables and eating fresh made Filipino food as the end result, was the best memory we will always have. Her pride and love to help anyone reach their own “American Dream” was prevalent in how she always helped anyone who asked.
