Lew Allen Derrey passed away April 29th, 2017 in Yakima, WA. he was born April 19th, 1933 in Toppenish, WA to Bill and Florence Derrey. He was raised in Toppenish and attended Toppenish schools. He married the love of his life, Mary, April 21st, 1952. In 1954 he was drafted and served in the Korean War. Lew worked for the Toppenish School Dist. for 25 years, first as a bus driver then as a maintenance supervisor. Dad was a farmer all of his life. He moved the family from Toppenish to Zillah in 1967 and farmed a small orchard where he instilled his strong work ethic into his kids. Dad was an avid collector of Native American and western artifacts. He loved hunting and fishing and horses. He loved his family and friends and especially loved his grandchildren and all children. Some of the best times of Dad’s life were spent on his boats, The Mari Lu and the Mari Lu II with family and friends. The family would like to thank the staff at Cedar Hills for the excellent care they provided Dad. Lew is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary of Yakima; five sons, Rick(Karen) of Zillah, Mike(Donnetta) of Wapato, Steve(Gail) of Zillah, Rob(Diana) of Yakima, Brian(Lindy) of Zillah; one daughter, Laurie(Chris) of ZIllah; 12 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 2 sisters and 1 brother. Viewing will be held from 4-7pm on Thursday, May 4, 2017 at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Zillah. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00pm on Friday, May 5, 2017 at Resurrection Catholic Church in Zillah. Burial will follow in the Zillah Cemetery.
