Leonor Marichalar Sanchez, our beloved mother of 96 years of age, went to be with our lord Jesus, Monday, March 2, 2026. She passed away in Yakima, Washington surrounded by all her loved ones. She resided in Harrah, Washington. Leonor was a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great, great grandmother. She was born in EL Rancho Las Labores, Repueblo de Oriente, Nuevo León, Mexico August 14,1929 to Elisa Benavidez Pruneda and Victoriano González Marichalar. She and her family lived in Harlingen, Texas until the early 1960’s. In March of 1961, the family moved to Yakima, Washington. Leonor was a hardworking, religious, God-fearingwoman who loved the lord above all and her family. She was a beautiful, kind, cheerful, caring, loving soul who always greeted others with a sincere smile and respect. She loved and nurtured her children deeply. She and her husband Guadalupe G. Sanchez were members of St. Peter Clever Catholic Church in Wapato for many years. Leonor enjoyed music and loved to sing with her family every occasion the family was together. She was devoutly religious and would often find herself reciting the Holy Rosary at home or helping lead the recital of the rosary at church. She along with her four siblings endured many hardships early in life as her father died at an early age. She worked in canneries and was a farm laborer harvesting and maintaining many crops until she retired.
She was preceded in death by both her parents, husband, Guadalupe, son, Marcos, (Irene), grandson, Marcos, jr., great grandson, Gabriel Sanchez jr., two sisters, one brother and one half-brother. She is survived by ten children: Amparo S. Castillo (Rafael), Pasco, WA., Dominga S, Hernandez (Jesus †), Moxee, WA., Guadalupe M. Sanchez, Jr. (Lupita †), Harrah, WA., Raul M. Sanchez, (Maria), Yakima, WA., Diana S. Gomez (Johnny), Wapato, WA., Yolanda S. Quevedo (Antonio), Harrah, WA., Elisa S. Alejo (Salvador †), Terrace Heights, WA., Leonor S. Negri (Fred), Yakima, WA., Rosa Maria S. Garza (Juan), Harrah, WA., Norma S. Velazquez (Horacio), Toppenish, WA., She is also survived by 33 Grandchildren, 50 Great-grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren.
Public Viewing from 4:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m., Rosary at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at Valley Hills Funeral Home and Crematory, 2600 Business Lane, Yakima, WA 98901
Mass of Christian Burial will be at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 201 North Iler Street, Moxee, WA 98936 at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 12, 2026.
