Obituary
Leonard was born on September 26, 1926 in Harrold, SD to Christina Hieb Winckler and Gottlieb Winckler. At the age of 6 the family moved from South Dakota to Washington State living briefly in Toppenish and Selah before settling in Zillah where the family established their farm raising grapes, apples, asparagus, hogs and cattle. Leonard continued to work the family farm for his entire life.
Leonard met Olive Burril on a blind date on December 4, 1948. Two years later on December 3, 1950 they were married in Zillah. Leonard was a lifelong member of the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Wisconsin Synod. Olive and Leonard were blessed with four children, Gary, Dave, Paulette, and Dan. They were doubly blessed with ten grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
Leonard was preceded in death by three brothers (Oscar, Reinhold, and Harold) and four sisters (Elsie Dewald, Emma Moser, Katherine Kunnanz, Marie Ravine), parents Christina Hieb Winckler and Gottlieb Winckler. He is survived by wife Olive, children Gary (Ginger) of Coeur d'Alene, ID; Dave (Marji) of Pasco, WA; Paulette White (Greg) of Kennewick, WA; Dan (Donna) of Zillah, WA. Surviving grandchildren are Kurt Winckler of Tucson, AZ; Matthew Winckler (Mystie) of Moscow, ID; Cameron White (Cajsha) of Kennewick, WA; Drew Winckler (Tiffany) of Yakima, WA; Barbara Braendlein (Austin) of Kent, WA; Marcie Perez (Miguel) of Kennewick, WA; Dani Alliston (Mckay) of Moxee, WA; Rachel Winckler of Louisville, KY; Emma McKay (Mike) of Moses Lake, WA; Daria Work (Brandon) of Blaine, TN. He is also survived by sister-in-law Myra Winckler of Eltopia, WA. and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at Valley Hills Funeral Home at 607 2nd Ave., Zillah, WA. 98953 on Thursday, January 12th, at 10:00 a.m.
