Leona Cunha

August 24, 1928 — March 4, 2013

Leona Lavern (Jergentz) Cunha was born in Oakland, California on August 24, 1928. She entered Heaven’s gates on March 4, 2013. A consummate mother and homemaker, Leona was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends. She was a fantastic knitter and crocheter. She enjoyed watching old movies on TV, as she was an usherette in her youth at her local theatre in Nile, California. She loved the ocean and would visit as often as she could. Her loving husband of 46 years, Melvin Thomas Cunha and her parents predeceased Leona and her grandson Joseph Jr also predeceased her. She is survived by her siblings Joyce Grundy, Juanita Cunha, Esther Freties, and Dennis (Bev) Jergentz of California; her daughter Linda (David) Kandler, son Gary (Patty) Cunha, and son Joseph (Dorinda) Cunha; her grandchildren Addie Kandler, Thomas (Amanda) Kandler, Lori Maloney, Crystal (Josh) Bellesen, and Melissa Petersen; her great-grandchildren Samia, Mariam, Yusef, Logan, Evan, Gavin, Jonathan, and Matthew; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Her daughter-in-law Dorinda lovingly cared for her the last years of her life. The family gives their greatest appreciation to Yakima Regional Hospital and Hospice. Thanks Joann! Viewing will be held on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at Valley Hills Terrace Heights from 3:00 - 7:00 PM. The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; they rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
