Leitha Jean Moreside
Yakima - Leitha Jean Moreside passed away on Friday, November 20, 2015, at Yakima Regional Medical Center. Leitha was born on October 16, 1922, to John Archibald and Sarah Isabel (Coles) MacLeod, in Ebenezer, Prince Edward Island, Canada. A widow with two daughters, Leitha lived on the Island until 1961, when she met David E. Moreside, a widower and former Prince Edward Island resident. Upon her marriage to David, she became stepmother to his two young children. Together they traveled and lived in many communities in the Northwest as David's job with Western Electric Company transferred him at least twice year. In 1965, they settled in Yakima to raise their family and continued to live there until David's passing in 2002. Leitha lived happily the last few years at Living Care Retirement Center in Yakima.
Leitha is survived by her step-daughter Beverly Moreside Allen (Don) of Packwood, Washington, her step-son, Michael Moreside (Lisa), and their daughter Melissa of Tieton, Washington; and in Prince Edward Island her daughter Ella MacKenzie Pound (Jack), her daughter Carol MacKenzie Wynne (Eugene), five grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Luella Kuntz (Edward) of London, Ontario, Canada and a brother, Carl MacLeod (Opal) of Hendersonville, Tennessee, and all her friends at Living Care and in Prince Edward Island.
Leitha was preceded in death by her husband David Moreside in 2002, her first husband Robert MacKenzie in 1949, her parents, two sisters and five brothers.
For many years, Leitha was an avid hockey fan and enjoyed attending her son, Mike's games. She also enjoyed golf, bowling, yoga, and traveling. Crossword puzzles and Social Hour were her latest passions.
A memorial service will be held at Living Care Retirement Center, 211 North 40th Avenue, Yakima, 98908 on December 18 at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in her memory to the Circle of Friends Resident Assistance Fund at Living Care Retirement Center (a non-profit organization), at the address listed above or to Union Gospel Mission.
