Lawrence (Larry) Edward Mercer passed away on September 17,
2025, in Yakima, Washington. He is survived by his wife, DJ Rowe,
daughters Michelle Stinson and Trina Young, and siblings Bill Mercer
and Lorraine Kolberg.
Larry was born to Lillian and William Mercer, in Edmonton, Canada on
November 24, 1941. As adventurous as his two older siblings, he
traveled the world (France, Africa, Spain, and more) after high school.
He then moved to the U.S. in his early 20s and was drafted into the
U.S. Army, where he served one tour in Vietnam as a courier. After
Vietnam, Larry worked in a variety of different jobs until eventually he
began working using the carpentry skills he learned from his father.
Larry later owned his own company as a contractor. Larry had fond
memories of his dad helping him lay the foundation for the first home
that Larry built for himself.
As stated above, Larry loved to travel, and he continued to do so
throughout his life with his beloved wife DJ, going to places like
Europe, Egypt, and Mexico. Larry was always up for an adventure
and whether an idea came to go far (London), or near (Leavenworth
for lunch), he could be heard to say “Let’s go!” as he folded his
newspaper, rose from his chair, and got ready to go once again.
Larry was an avid fisherman, loving to fish on the ocean in Mexico. He
was also passionate about tennis, which he took up later in life. He
liked music and his favorite songs were Bohemian Rhapsody and
Hotel California, with favorite artists being the Eagles, Queen, and
Hank Williams. Larry was kind and generous to those he knew and
those he met. He loved hearing a good joke but loved telling them
even more. Larry was much loved and will be missed very much by
his family and friends.
