“Weyakum” Kris Julian Sohappy LeClaire went to be with Creator on July 22, 2022, at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, WA. He was born December 14, 1986, in Toppenish, WA to Julie Sohappy of Wapato, WA and Marlon LeClaire of Warm Springs, OR. Kris grew up in Wapato and was raised by his grandma Doris Nanamkin Simpson. He had always been a kind- and big-hearted person. When he was a child, he enjoyed going to the 1910 Shaker Church with his grandma and members of the church still remember seeing him in the dining hall. He was also a member of the McKinley Youth Group and Mending Wings. Kris graduated from Heritage Universities HEP GED program. Following graduation, he worked as a cook at different places including Legends Casino and for the Mending Wings program. When he was in school, he was a member of the Wapato Indian Club and his chosen style was Grassdance. In his later years he loved to go out with his friends to Pete’s Nightclub, Tuscan’s and Branding Iron to go dancing. He loved listening to music and watching his programs on TV. He also loved spending time with his family during dinners at grandma’s house. Kris is survived by his mother Julie Sohappy of Wapato, WA; his father Marlon LeClaire of Warm Springs, WA; his sister Larise Sohappy of Lawrence, KS; sister Tanya Miller of Wapato, WA; brother Arthur Miller of Wapato, WA; brother Alan “Ichiro” Aleck of Wapato, WA ; adopted mother Margaret Clayton of Seattle, WA; sister Kristi Castillo of Seattle, WA; brother Bill Castillo of Seattle, WA; nephew D’Angelo “D” Sohappy of Lawrence, KS; nephews Mikey Elwell and Markus Andy of Wapato, WA; niece Esperanza “E” Soto of Lawrence, KS; niece Aleveiana and Mia Castillo of Seattle, WA. He is preceded in death by his grandma Doris Nanamkin; his grandpa Larry Sohappy Sr.; his great grandpa George Nanamkin; his great grandma Ernestine Zack Nanamkin; His great grandma Julia Pimms Sohappy; his great grandpa Frank Sohappy; his paternal grandma Lenora Wilkinson Meanus; his paternal grandpa Louie LeClaire; and his baby brother Kyle Sohappy. His dressing/viewing will be held at 1pm on July 25, 2022, at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Zillah, WA. Transporting him to 1910 Shaker Church in White Swan for services. Then departing at 6am for Union Gap Cemetery for burial. After the burial the family will go back to 1910 Shaker Church for handshakes, giveaway and meal.
