Katherine Oswalt

Katherine Oswalt was born on March 25, 1927 to John W. Shields and Mary Rosalie Hecker in Sunnyside Washington. She attended high school in White Swan Wa., after graduation she enrolled in Saint Elizabeth school of nursing in Yakima. After she completed her schooling in nursing, she was then employed at Saint Elizabeth Hospital. She met Wayne Oswalt when she was attending school of nursing and they were married January 6, 1949. The two made their home in Zillah Wa. Once she finished school she started working as a registered nurse at Toppenish community hospital when it opened its doors in 1951 and she retired from there in July 1985. She was a member of Zillah resurrection church from 1963 until her date of passing. She is survived by her son Don Oswalt of Yakima, Wa; her daughters Karen (Greg) Hollowell and Marianne Bounds of Zillah, Wa; 4 grandchildren Nick (Brittany) Oswalt, Cody (Jade) Bounds, Sara (Zach) Hatten and Carson Bounds; and 4 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Wayne Oswalt; parents John (Mary) Shields; brothers Charles Shields, John (Evelyn) Shields, Jim (Mary) Shields; sisters Teresa Boyle, Mary Shields; son Ron Oswalt; daughter-in-law Sue Oswalt; son-in-law Randy Bounds. Please join us for visitation on Thursday, January 19th from 4 to 7 PM with the rosary being held at 4:30 PM at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Zillah, Wa. The funeral mass will be held January 20th at 10 AM at resurrection Catholic Church in Zillah with burial to follow at Zillah Cemetery.
