IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Karen Sue
Wesselius
July 29, 1953 – February 20, 2026
Karen Sue Wesselius joined her heavenly father on February 20th 2026.
Karen was born in Missouri to George and Patricia (Doherty) Farmer. She spent her early childhood in Missouri, with her extended family, before moving to California with her immediate family. Karen enjoyed California to the fullest as she did everything in her life. She loved working with her father in construction, riding her horse everywhere, and spending time tanning on the beach with her cousin Jinner. Karen moved to the small town of Zillah, again with her family, and completed her high school education there.
Karen loved to sing and had a beautiful voice. She sang with the high school choir and was invited by many community clubs to sing for them. Her piano playing was beautiful and she loved playing her guitar. She married after high school and soon had her son, Corey. Corey became the center of her universe, and he made her very happy and proud throughout her life.
Karen divorced and moved back to Zillah with Corey, where she met her future husband Dale. Karen and Dale were inseparable from that point on. She joined him in Woodinville, where they spent the next few years. Karen, Dale and Corey moved to Moses Lake in 1985 where they built their dream home on the lake. Dale and Karen worked alongside her dad, brother Mike, son Corey and nephew Jared to build their home. The beautiful custom tile work throughout was Karen's work. A legacy of love, with a genuine "Welcome" at the front door. Karen and Dale spent many pleasant nights on their loveseat watching TV with the fireplace blazing below it and the lake visible through the windows on either side. Karen was so proud of her home she would show it to anyone who came to her door. Mary the mail lady, the UPS and FedEx drivers all got tours of her home. Karen also loved playing her piano at night, most often starting with Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata" and ending with Roger Miller's "King of the Road."
Karen soon became a large part of the Wesselius family, and she loved all her new brothers, sisters, nephews and nieces. Karen was from a large family herself, so she already had multiple brothers, sisters, nephews and nieces, but her heart was huge, and she had boundless love for all of them. But what would really bring out her love was her grandkids, Nick, Keagan, Trevis, Brandon, Grant, Megan and our drama queen Mia. Karen baby sat them all when they were young, most of the time, all of them at once and she loved it. From her retail work she provided piles of presents at Christmas which, of course, all the kids loved.
During her 42 years with Dale, Karen loved fishing. Well, sort of, she would not touch the worm or fish. Corey and Dale took care of baiting the hook and unhooking the fish for her. She loved camping with family, hunting with family, boating with family, white water rafting with family, carnival rides with family and big fast roller coasters with family. You will notice she did everything with family. She loved just spending time with all her family.
Karen loved to sew and made a camouflage jacket for Dale for hunting and even outfitted her family with puppy shirts for their visit to Disneyland.
Karen developed Alzheimer's later in life, which makes many people angry, but Karen was always happy. She just enjoyed whatever she was doing. She especially loved pulling weeds, and you would be hard-pressed to find one weed from the county road down the long driveway to the house. She transformed a rocky piece of ground, one rock at a time, into the beautiful sanctuary it is today.
One of Karen's dreams was for her family to move out to her property on the lake so she could be near them. She lived to see her grandson and his wife Tia build a home across the road from her home. She then saw her son Corey move onto the property next to Trevis and Tia.
Karen was preceded in death by her father, George Farmer, her older sister Kathleen Cain, and nephew, Robert Wallace. She is survived by her mother, Pat Hyatt, sisters Christine MacDonald, and Carol Jackson, brothers Larry (Kim) Farmer, and Mike Farmer, sons Eric Wesselius and Corey (Lorena) Sweet, grandsons Nick, Keagan, Trevis (Tia), Brandon (Joselyn), Grant Olsen, and granddaughters Megan Olsen and Mia (Max) Yoder, brothers-in-law Ken Wesselius, Tom (Brenda) Wesselius, Wayne Wesselius, Randy (Bonnie) Wesselius, sister-in-law Tammy (Kenny) Marsh, 36 nephews, nieces and spouses and too many grandnephews and nieces to list here. She loved them all and enjoyed sitting down with each other individually to talk about their lives. Karen's heart was so large that she recently added Lorena's five children to her family; Chris (Jasmine), Richard, Micheal, Jason (Mazlin) and their son Tomas, and Miriam Gonzalez.
