Yakima – Karen Lucas, 58, of Yakima, peacefully passed away with her family by her side on December 5th, 2015, at The Cottage in the Meadow, following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Seattle, WA on April 16, 1957, to Willard and Ethel Lewis. She grew up in Yakima, WA where she attended the West Valley schools graduating in 1975. Karen also attended Trend Business College, completing studies in bookkeeping and accounting. She had various jobs including, Washington Fruit, where she met her husband Thurman (she was packing pears and he was a mechanic). They were married on September 8th, 1979, and enjoyed over 36 years of marriage. Karen also worked at numerous fruit warehouses in the Yakima valley. She enjoyed her final years working at Evans Fruit Company as a pallet tagger. Karen was a strong willed (stubborn), dedicated, hard working, and loving wife and mother. She was very proud of her family and especially enjoyed her time with her grandchildren. Karen will be missed by those who loved and cared for her. She is survived by her husband, Thurman, daughter Cassie Lucas, both of Yakima and her step daughter Tammy Martinez, of Chehalis WA. She is also survived by her grandchildren Preston, Aaliyah, and Adrian, Gabriel, and Lillian. In addition she is also survived by her brother Gary Lewis (Rhea)of Yakima WA, along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Willard and Ethel Lewis. A Memorial service is planned for Friday, January 8th, 2016 at 3:00 PM at Valley Hills Funeral Home, Yakima. A celebration of life reception will immediately follow at the Hilton Garden Inn located on E. Yakima Ave. Please dress casually. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to North Star Lodge and Seattle Children's Hospital CICU unit. Valley Hills Funeral Home is caring for the family.
