Obituary Joyce Ann Waggener September 5, 1946 – April 28, 2015 Joyce Ann Waggener, 68 of Toppenish Nursing and Rehabilitation Center went to meet her Heavenly Father very peacefully with family member around her on Tuesday, April 28, 2015. She was born in Yakima September 5, 1946 to Lloyd and Marilyn Waggener. They lived in the Whitstran – Prosser area where Joyce attended school in her early years. Later the family moved to Grandview where Joyce graduated from Grandview High School in 1966. Joyce’s life was dedicated to her Lord from a very young Sunday school age until the time of her death. She went to Beauty School and was a hairdresser for a short time. She went to work at what was then called Prosser Pack in Prosser WA. November 4, 1972 Joyce was involved in a car accident, which left her with a broken neck and a spinal cord injury. It changed her life in a split second. After several surgeries and long stays in the hospitals and rehab, the Lord changed her from quadraplegic to being able to walk and drive her car again so she continued working again for her Lord. After the accident she took classes at YVCC and Heritage College studying, counseling for the handicapped, but ill health caused her to cut back on her classes. Joyce went with Reign Ministries in 1986 with her church group to spread the Gospel all over Europe. She was gone from home for two months, sleeping on cots and in tents and churches. Joyce being handicapped and walking with leg braces and a cane, the young people were happy to pitch her tent and set up her cot every-time they moved. Joyce helped to organize a group called “The Handicapped are not Quitters,” a support group for the handicapped. They got together for meetings, picnics, banquets, and concerts. She could drive her car and transported those who couldn’t drive. Joyce visited many shut-ins who could not leave their homes. Joyce is survived by her sister; Erma (Charles) Lee and her brother Cecil Waggener. Two nephews; Todd Lee and Kevin Lee and numerous nieces and nephews. Joyce is preceded in death by her parents Lloyd and Marilyn Waggener and brother Delbert Waggener. Joyce was an inspiration to everyone she came in touch with. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her. She is healed now and free from pain and suffering caused by the accident 42 years ago. A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at 10:30 A.M. at The Corner Stone Assembly of God Church at 400 North Avenue in Sunnyside. A Fellowship dinner will follow.
