Joseph Tayon

July 12, 1938 — January 7, 2025

Joseph Frank Tayon passed away on Tuesday January 7, 2025. He was 86 years old. Joe was born in St. Louis, Missouri on July 12, 1938 to Woodrow J Tayon and Loretta C. (Bryant) Tayon. He was the second born of three sons of Woody and Loretta. After the 2nd World War ended in 1945, Woody's job at the naval shipyard in San Francisco ended and the family followed Woody's brother Anthony Tayon to Grandview, Washington in 1946. Joe attended school in Grandview and graduated in 1957. While in the Air Force, he came home to marry his high school sweet heart, Rose Lussier and while stationed in Limestone, Maine their daughter Kathleen J Tayon was born. After his discharge from the Air Force they moved to Yakima, where their son Randy W Tayon was born. Joe graduated from Central Washington University in Ellensburg in 1971. In 1975 Joe married Opal E. (Still) Stewart, the love of his life, and inherited four beautiful girls to help raise; Marla, Janet, Shannon and Kristi, now there were six children who brought light and excitement in his life. Joe and Opal owned and operated four businesses, the first one being Tayon's Market in Grandview, and the last one Tayon's Adult Family Home in Grandview, which we sold to our daughter Shannon Stewart who continues to operate it. in 1996 Joe and Opal through the study of the Bible found out why God created the earth and mankind, how God wanted his human creation to benefit by his directions, his Bible based principles, His promises as to what God has in store for mankind, and they became Jehovah's Witnesses. Joe loved the ministry and was always ready to talk to people about God and his Word the Bible. in all our travels throughout the U.S., Canada, and Alaska we were always greeted at the door as we entered any Kingdom Hall, and were treated with loving hospitality, like the brothers and sisters we are, anywhere in the world. Joe was preceded in death by his Father Woodrow, his brother Donald, his brother Vincent, and his mother Loretta and his stepdaughter Kristi Stewart. Valley Hills Funeral Home of Sunnyside is in charge of all arrangements. To order memorial trees or send flowers to the family in memory of Joseph Tayon, please visit our flower store.
