Johnnie Martinez

Johnnie Martinez (53) of Toppenish WA, Passed away in Seattle on September 14, 2017. Johnnie was born in Toppenish WA on September 23, 1963, to the Late Amy Baker and the Late Bennie Martinez. Johnnie was educated in Toppenish, WA. Upon receiving his G.E.D, he then graduated from Perry Tech in Yakima, WA. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, cutting firewood, camping, and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He worked various jobs within the Yakama Nation, including their Forest Development program, YN Forest Products, Wapato Irrigation Project, as well as for various trucking companies, and as a wildlands firefighter. He is survived by daughter’s Jasmine Martinez and Lucinda Martinez of Toppenish, Rachel Munoz of white Swan, Sharday Ortiz of Wapato, Rachel Munoz of White Swan, Daughter in law (Joz), his good friend Bernice Owens of Toppenish WA. His sons James Martinez of Toppenish, Jay Fry of Omak, son in law (Jeremy). Grandchildren: Serene Corpuz, Shanoah Watlamet, Benjamin Slagle, Harry Martinez, James Martinez Jr, Brad Johnson Jr, Mary Alice, and late Carmen Martinez, Late Alexander Martinez. His brothers Lewis Underwood, Justin Martinez, Bennie Martinez II, Alfonso Baker, and Lamont Tom. His sister’s JoEllen Ellenwood and Nancy Corona. He also had many nieces and nephews. Special thank you to his Dialysis family in Zillah WA for taking care of Johnnie for the past 5 years! Dressing Services will be held on September 18th, 2017 at the Wapato Longhouse at 2:00 p.m., followed by overnight services. Burial services will take place at Umtuch/Logie Cemetery in Toppenish WA prior to sunrise (6am) on Tuesday September 19, 2017.
