John C. Olivas, 82 of Toppenish, WA passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on September 14th, 2016. John was born March 8th, 1934 in Canutillo El Paso County, Texas to Zenaida Virginia Olivas and Jose Cota.
In his early years he worked for local farmers; Bouchey Farms, Parrish Farms and Rowe Farms. John’s employers and co-workers were so kind and generous to our family. Many years later he moved to Arizona where he became a self-employed Grocery Store Proprietor.
John also enjoyed tinkering and fixing and selling a variety of electrical items. He was self-taught and had the ability to fix just about everything. John was also a self-taught musician. He learned a variety of instruments such as guitar, accordion and drums to name a few. John was the lead singer in two groups; Los Texanos del Norte and Los Valcanicos del Norte. John was a life time member of St. Aloysius Church in Toppenish, WA where he was very involved with the Spanish Mass musical group. John also had a strong love of fishing, singing and playing music of all genres. He was a ridiculous jokester, prankster and very funny.
John is survived by his children Lydia Alvarado (Manuel) Sylvia Forgey (Ron), Joe Olivas (Janell), David Olivas and Santa Cruz Olivas and his sister Rosa Arenivar Mirelez. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his daughter Virginia Ann Olivas and his son John C. Olivas and his parents.
The family wishes to thank and express gratitude to the Cottage in the Meadow for making his last days comfortable and peaceful. John will be laid to rest October 22nd in a private grave side service.
