John R Hall, 74, of Union Gap WA passed away Jan.4th, 2014, surrounded by his family at Memorial Hospital.
John was born April 6th,1939 to Leonard and Martha (Winn) Hall in Poplar, MT. He was born with a bad heart disease resulting in open heart surgeries as he grew older. John took whatever life handed him and never gave up as he was a very strong and extraordinary man. John was from the Assiniboine Sioux tribes of Poplar, MT and was very proud of his Indian heritage. His family moved to other parts of Montana and Wyoming and Washington before finally settling in the Yakima Valley in the late 50’s.
John was a truck driver for more than 28 years (and I might add, one of the best). He worked for Damage Control for the U.S. Dept of Agriculture for 10 years until he had to retire due to bad health. John has two daughters from his first marriage and lost three sons at birth. Later, on Aug 7, 1976 he married his wife Shirley and they raised 5 children together. John was a true outdoorsman. He was an avid hunter and loved to go fishing anytime he got a chance. He had a very outgoing personality and a sense of humor that couldn't be beat. He was a joy to be around.
He loved spending time with his wife Shirley, the kids, grandkids and great grandkids, and his close friends and of course the family dogs “his little buddies” Yogi and D.G. John was a devoted husband, brother, dad, grandpa, uncle and friend. John was dearly loved by all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his three infant sons, his parents Leonard and Martha Hall, and two uncles Louis Longee and Bud Winn.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Shirley Hall of Union Gap, his children Ken (Karen) Bartlett of Lake Tapps, WA, David (Becca) Bartlett of Kooskia, ID, Bill (Sue) Bartlett of Yakima, Sheri (Andy) Florec of Bonney Lake, WA and Sandy Smith of Pendleton, OR; brother Woody (Dianne) Hall of Yakima and sister Marilyn (Dick) DeLoizer of Wapato; 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. John will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Our lives will forever be changed without him. A Celebration of John’s Life will be held on his birthday, Sunday, April 6th.
