Joe Flores, 84, of Wapato died Friday at Toppenish Community Hospital. Joe was born in Holly, Colorado, and lived in Wapato for 58 years. He worked as a custodian and a laborer.
In the community Joe was known as a hard worker and a friend you could always count on for a kind word or for some good-natured ribbing. His children knew him as a nurturing and kind father who smoothed life’s edges. His wife, Jenny, who he called “Chicken”, knew him as the hopeful young man she started a family with and as the pillar that stood beside her for 60 years.
Survivors include his wife, Jenny Flores of Wapato; three sons, Laurence Flores and John Flores, both of Wapato, and Joe Flores Jr. of Yakima; five daughters, Joann Flores and Angie Flores, both of Yakima, Gloria Foster of Montana, Josie Douglas of Wapato and Lorraine Flores of Utah; 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son Johnny Joe Flores.
We will miss you and will grieve for a while but that is for us. You’re already in heaven putting in a garden and building a little cabin and a chicken coop just waiting for your “Chicken” to join you. We miss you Papa and love you to pieces.
Funeral services for Joe will be at 2 p.m. Friday, February 7, at Valley Hills Funeral Home, 607 2nd Avenue in Zillah. Valley Hills Funeral Home is in care of the arrangements. Online tributes can be left at www.valleyhillsfh.com
