Jimmy Lynn Nichols, 65, of Yakima passed away on April 12, 2013 at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. He was born on March 18, 1948 to Charles “Ed” and Mildred “Millie” (Pennington) Nichols in Yakima.
In 1984 Jimmy met Karen Trusley through their mutual love of baseball. They had a son together in 1985. Jimmy was drafted into the Army at age 20. He served 18 months in Vietnam as a field radio mechanic. He then worked for over 30 years at Weyerhaeuser & International Paper as a machine operator and forklift driver, retiring in January 2010. Jimmy was an outdoorsman with a passion for all kinds of fishing. He loved to catch them and also eat them. Jimmy and his son Jeremy spent many weekends and vacations fishing and camping together as Jeremy grew up. During his retirement he enjoyed fly-tying, jig-making and making all of his own tackle. Jimmy also enjoyed many spirited political discussions with his family and friends. Most recently he enjoyed making connections with his family and friends on Facebook.
Jimmy is survived by his son, Jeremy Nichols of Yakima; brother, Dennis Nichols of Kansas; Sister, Crystal Sears of McMinnville, OR; nephew Cory Simonson; and nieces, Charlie Slagg, Gina Sandall, Amber Schaffer, and Lori Sandall. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Millie Nichols and his sister, Gwen Sandall.
The family will be having a Day of Remembrance in the near future. The date and time will be published at a later date.
