Jesus Torres was born June 5, 1926 in La Paloma, Michoacan, Mexico to Juan and Jovita Torres. He grew up in Mexico and came to the United States in 1971 where he and his wife, Maria Merced Torres, first made their home in California. Jesus then moved his family to Washington state in the late 70s where they made Yakima their permanent home. Jesus worked in the fields, area canneries and fruit warehouses.
Jesus loved spending time with his family and friends and was always up for a card game of “Con Quien.” If you were in his general area with nothing to do, you quickly found yourself playing several hands with him. The game would continue until he beat you so bad you were boring him or he would get upset and accuse you of cheating because he was falling behind. Jesus loved spending all of his time outdoors whether it was at family outings, neighborhood volleyball games or catching the bus to Goodwill. One of his favorite things to do was to watch pay per view boxing, but be careful of sitting next to him because he might inadvertently knock you out in his excitement for the match.
Jesus always had a smile on his face and never met a stranger. He always had a way of looking at the positive side of any situation or he would tease you with his quick wit to put you at ease.
Jesus is survived by his wife of 64 years Maria “Merced” Torres; his children Maria (Patricio) Rodriguez, Catalina (Eduviges) Torres-Moreno, Rosalia (Adan) Torres-Gonzalez, Liduvina (Abran) Torres-Ferrer, Jose (Josefina) Torres, Jovita (Trino) Cisneros, Leticia (Raul) Uriostegui, Rafael (Jael) Torres, Jesus (Hilda) Torres; his four loving sisters, Marina, Carmela, Lupita and Juana Torres; 37 grandchildren and 59 great grandchildren. Jesus was preceded in death by his parents, Juan and Jovita Torres, his son Constantino Torres, and three grandchildren.
