Jerome Linder

UNION GAP - Jerry Linder 86, of Union Gap passed away at home on September 27, 2013. Born on December 6, 1926 in Corwin, Kansas to Perry and Marie Linder; Jerry was the oldest of seven siblings. Most of his childhood was spent in Oklahoma; it was there that he met the love of his life Emogene Mount. The family moved to the Yakima Valley in 1940; he joined the Army in 1945 and served in the Philippines and Korea as a Motor Pool Sergeant. Returning home in 1948 he started driving truck for Herrett Trucking and over the years drove for many companies including Snow & Sons; Easley Hauling; Fiscus Motor Freight and Eldon Graves. In 1949 Jerry and Emogene were married in Prosser Washington; from their union they had three sons Raymond, Jerry and Don. Jerry’s passion in life was trucks and fast cars – one of his proudest moments was when he became owner/operator and drove for Sun Country Brokerage. Jerry was an avid Nascar fan and raced in Yakima, Sunnyside and California. Jerry enjoyed the many great friends he met on his daily walks at the Valley Mall and appreciated the neighbors who kept an eye on him. Jerry was survived by sons Raymond (Karin) and Don (Jo); brothers Delbert (Doreen) and Wayne; sister Margie; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Jerry was preceded in death by his wife of fifty six years, son Jerry, grandson Jason, his parents, brothers Eldon and Kenny and sister Corine. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, November 2, 2013 at Leisure Hills Clubhouse from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made to the charity of choice.
