Col. James L. Yearout On April 22, 2017 Jim decided it was time for him to join Anita in heaven and have her arrange for paradise for them. Jim’s life began on December 13, 1928 in Madison, Kansas as one of 6 children born to Grover and Birdie (Newmen) Yearout. His parents were farmers in Southeastern Kansas and like so many others had to leave because of the drought and eventually ended up in the Northwest. Jim joined the Army National Guard in October 1947 and was mobilized during the Korean War. Upon return he worked full-time military for the National Guard until retirement in 1984. He was especially proud of the face he joined as a Private and progressed through the ranks and retired as a full Colonel. He met the love of his life Anita in February 1949 and they were married in October 1949. They were blessed with four wonderful children, 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. While stationed at Yakima Training Center, Jim was active in the community. He served on the Military Affairs Committee for the Chamber of Commerce. He loved sports and served as President of Yakima Youth Baseball in 1974 and was a member of the Board of Directors for many uyears thereafter. He was a current member of Parker Youth and Sport Foundation. He was a faithful member of Westminster Presbyterian Church for 52 plus years and served on the Board of Deacons for two full terms. Love for his family was foremost in his mind. He loved planning family vacations. His favorite vacation spot was Sun River, Oregon. He was an avid fan of the Mariners and Seahawks, watching every game during the season. He was an avid golfer and scored 3 hole in ones during his playing career. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Helen Turner, Ruth Carlisle, Marge Inbody; brothers: Grover and Orville Yearout; son in law Bob Cox; and his wife Anita of 62 years. His is survived by daughters Sandy Cox of Yakima, Linda Kerin (Mike) of San Jose, California; sons Mike Yearout (Connie) of Selah and Craig Yearout (Robyn) of Vancouver, Washington. Grandchildren: Jim Toney (Aimee), Krystl Acrea, William and Jon Yearout, AJ and Ryan Kerin, Denise Sutton (Paco) and Kelly Cox. Great grandchildren: Avery Meyer, Ezra and Ella Toney, Cole and Grace Sutton. A Memorial Service will be held at Yakima Covenant Church (6015 Summitview Ave) on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at 1:00pm with Full Military Honors. Donations in Jim’s memory can be made to Yakima Covenant Church or Union Gospel Mission.
