James Gordon Sartin a.k.a. Pete passed away on March 1, 2025, at the age of 87 years old. Pete was born on November 30, 1937, in Selah, Washington to Frank and Selba Sartin. He spent his childhood in Missouri before his family made the trip back to Wapato, Washington, where he graduated high school.
Pete married the love of his life Donna May Graff on December 15, 1956, and on September 12, 1957. Their only child Benny Jo Sartin was born.
Pete was a cornerstone of the community, creating and managing several businesses, but he will always be remembered as your friendly local State Farm agent. He served as an agent for 37 years, growing his business from a shoebox in the back of his car to the brick-and-mortar shop you see today. Along the way, he also helped his son, Ben, build Sartin Trucking and Construction. Pete retired from State Farm in 2005 but returned to his trucking roots, continuing to drive a semi until he was no longer able to.
Pete enjoyed driving truck, riding horses, and sipping on a tall whiskey and Pepsi in his tack room with friends and family from a red Solo cup, of course. Pete was always the life of the party with all of his stories and his full smile. He loved competing all over the country on his cutting horses and enjoying the great friendships that came along with it.
In 2015 Pete lost his loving wife Donna and remarried in 2019 to longtime friend Patsy Tayon.
Pete is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Selba Sartin, his wife Donna Sartin, his two sisters, Donna Cordes and Shirlene Crow, and his son Ben Sartin. He is survived by his current wife, Patsy Tayon Sartin, his grandson, AJ Sartin and his wife, Lizzy and their three children Brooke, Colton, and Harper. His granddaughter, Sami Jo Sartin, his daughter-in-law, Tami Sartin, and many nieces and nephews and their growing families.
Services will be held on March 21, 2025, at 1 p.m. in Sunnyside at the Valley Hills Funeral Home. The family would love for you to stop by and share your memories of Pete.
